CBT Therapist Working with PMDD-Related Difficulties, Emotional Regulation, and Eating Patterns
I’m Angela, a CBT therapist working with adults experiencing cyclical mood changes, including PMDD-related emotional difficulties, alongside challenges with emotional regulation, binge–restrict eating patterns, and persistent self-criticism or low self-worth.
My work focuses on understanding the psychological patterns that maintain these difficulties and supporting meaningful change through structured, collaborative therapy. Where relevant, we may also consider how factors such as stress, sleep, and nutrition interact with these difficulties.
My Clinical Approach
My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and integrates compassion-based principles when working with self-criticism and shame.
CBT helps identify the psychological and behavioural patterns that maintain difficulties such as cyclical mood shifts, self-criticism, and distressing eating patterns. Compassion-informed work can help address the shame and harsh self-evaluation that often accompany these experiences.
Therapy focuses on understanding these patterns clearly and developing practical strategies to support gradual and sustainable change.
Where relevant, we may also consider how factors such as stress, sleep, and nutrition interact with psychological patterns. However, this work remains grounded in a psychological therapy framework rather than prescriptive health or diet advice.
Areas of Clinical Focus
I have a particular clinical interest in:
PMDD-related emotional difficulties and cyclical mood changes
Emotional regulation difficulties associated with hormonal changes
Binge eating, bulimia, and binge–restrict cycles
Body image distress and fear of weight gain
Perfectionism, shame, and low self-worth
Identity disruption during hormonal or life transitions
These difficulties often overlap and reinforce one another. Therapy focuses on understanding how they interact and how they can be addressed together.
Who This Work Is For
This work may be a good fit if you:
Feel like a different person at certain points in your cycle
Experience loss of control around food or rigid eating patterns
Experience persistent self-criticism or feel “not good enough”
Want structured, evidence-based therapy rather than coaching or advice
Are ready to engage actively in the therapeutic process
Professional Standards
I hold a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Group Work at SCQF Level 10 (Honours Degree level), equivalent to a Level 6 qualification within the wider UK framework. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework and professional standards. My practice is supported by regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure safe, reflective, and evidence-informed work.
I have also completed additional training in integrated nutritional health coaching through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), which informs a broader understanding of lifestyle factors that may interact with emotional wellbeing.
Sessions are offered online across the UK.
